Our wonderful traditional and professional (40+ years of experience!) soap maker Julian who is passionate about his soap making & the ingredients he uses recently shared the below with us when we were recently discussing the common use of palm oil in soaps:
We are two of the original anti-palm oil crusaders - (if you) read the back of the label... you will see the print NO Palm Oil. I am also a Consumer Journalist and stopped using palm oil many years ago when it became obvious that the Malaysians/Indonesians were destroying the rainforests and their creatures. They say this a "myth" and both Gillard and Abott have thrown out the truth in labelling bill which demands that manufacturers stop the deceit and label their "vegetable oil" as palm.
Did you know that (non organic) palm oil extraction is done with HEXANE - a petrochemical degreaser solvent which is neurotoxic and carcinogenic. Most non-organic vegetable oils and non-organic soy is processed this way. ...
In fact we are one of the very very few soapmakers who refuse to use the cheap and nasty eco-destroying rubbish. Their claim of "sustainablity" is pure fiction and absolute nonsense - the genuine sustainably-produced palm is a tiny fraction of the World's supply. I also teach soapmaking and lecture against it....
Our sole ingredients as listed on the back of the label are : Majority NASAA Organic 
Australian {Toscana} cold preseed Olive oil, now NASSA Certified Organic Virgin cold pressed Coconut Oil and 100% Pure Cold Pressed Castor Oil - No Hexane is used in our oils {which now also appears on the label in red} - and 100% pure and ACO certified Organic Essential Oils. 100% truthful label.
Australian {Toscana} cold preseed Olive oil, now NASSA Certified Organic Virgin cold pressed Coconut Oil and 100% Pure Cold Pressed Castor Oil - No Hexane is used in our oils {which now also appears on the label in red} - and 100% pure and ACO certified Organic Essential Oils. 100% truthful label. The saponification is done by hand in very small batches using an organic catylist which is completely transformed into guaranteed neutral soap and glycerine, it is slow reacted, hand cut, slow cured, hand bevelled and hand wrapped in water-soluble biodegradable cellulose.
And that is why we have so much respect for Julian and his fantastic soaps & shampoo bars :)
