Handling the Pressurised Can

Basics
Ready-to-sue soy whip in the pressurised can is a new and at present worldwide unique product.  The can is an integrated system comprising both food technology and packing engineering.

Two unmixed  components
The can contains 2 separate components

1. soy cream
2. propellant gas (to be precise: nitrous oxide)

Both components are contained separately in every can.

How does the cream get out of the can?
Quite simply: in order to dispense the cream you must:-

1. shake the can so that the cream lies directly in front of the valve
2. once it is there press the nozzle (or to be exact the base of the valve), so that the gas simply expands and propels the cream mass forward.

Why are there handling problems particularly during the hot months?
Ready to use soy whip in the pressure can is a technically optimised but not impervious product and it tends to thicken when subject to severe temperature fluctuations.  It is most susceptible subjected first to heat then prolonged cold.  This makes it much harder to get the cream in front of the valve. (You have to shake it more vigorously, but it still works, of course).

What is the best thing to do in this case?

1. Don't store the cream too cold.  Best of all, don't refrigerate it, or take  it out of the fridge at least 10 minutes before use.
2. Give the can a vigorous downward jolt.  You will notice that something moves inside the can (tis is the cream mass).  Shake the can downwards only, not upwards, so that the cream moves in front of the valve.
3. If only gas but not cream is expelled from the can, immediately stop pressing the valve (otherwise the gas will be completely expelled and the cream can no longer be dispensed at all).

Please do not try to pry open or cut the can to obtain the contents, either with or without tools.  The can is made of tin, and cutting it can create sharp edges which easily cause injury.

For technical reasons it is completely unavoidable and normal that longer cold storage leads to thickening.  The product can none the less be dispensed and consumed.

What is it made from?

100% fruit - just apples, grapes and carob and nothing else.  No added colours, flavours or preservatives.

What is carob?

Carob grows on trees in a pod like case and is native to the Mediterranean. It’s been cultivated for over 4000 years as a source of natural sweetness.

What does it taste like and what can I use it for?

Sweet Freedom Syrup tastes sweet, rich and fruity (a little like honey without the bitter aftertaste). 

Drizzle over porridge, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, pancakes, crepes and waffles.  Bake healthier cakes, muffins, flapjacks, puddings, brownies etc, replacing all sugar and sweet syrups.  Make healthier sauces, desserts, jams, lemon curd, chutneys, dressings, ice cream / lollies.  Spread on toast in place of honey and jam.  Glaze foods prior to cooking or BBQ’ing.  Add a rich, sweet taste to your savoury dishes and stir fries.

How does it compare to sugar?

It has 25% fewer calories than sugar, is sweeter and you can reduce the amount used gram for gram by around 25% (i.e. if your recipe calls for 100g of sugar try 75g).  It also has a lower GL (Glycaemic Load) making it a better choice than sugar or honey for diabetics and is produced using no chemicals or enzymes.  *Recommended maximum oven temp for baking 180 degrees C.

How does it compare to honey?

It has a more neutral taste than honey with no bitter after taste making it more versatile.  It also has a lower GL making it a better choice for diabetics.  Children also prefer the taste to honey in taste tests (very young children can also be allergic to honey).  It’s the best selling vegan honey alternative in the UK!

Can diabetics use it?

Yes, as it has a low GL it can help avoid blood sugar highs and lows making it a good choice for diabetics as part of a healthy balanced diet.

How does it compare to agave syrup?

Agave syrup is produced in Mexico from a cactus like plant used to make tequila.  It is processed using chemicals and enzymes and is very high in fructose (90g of fructose per 100g).

Sweet Freedom is made in the UK from 100% fruit (apples, grapes and carob) all sourced within Europe and is processed using no chemicals or enzymes.  It has only 23g of fructose per 100g.  *All fruits contain varying levels of fructose whereas many people assume they are all fructose!  Recent research suggests we should limit the amount of fructose we consume as it can raise triglycerides and be bad for our hearts. How does it compare to Xylitol?

Xylitol is a polyalcohol, made from corn husks or birch trees sold under various brand names; it is chemically processed and produced mainly in China.

It is very easy to use from the ‘top down’ squeezy bottle that has a non-drip cap so no mess or stickiness!

Does it need to be kept in the fridge?

No, it is an ambient product.  The shelf life from date of production is two years.
